Lawsuit Alleges Abuse at Vancouver College in the 1980s

A former student of Vancouver College has filed a lawsuit claiming “organized and protracted” abuse at the hands of teachers and staff in the 1980s. The lawsuit accuses several members of the Christian Brothers order, the Vancouver Archdiocese, and the B.C. Ministry of Education of allowing and concealing psychological, physical, and sexual abuse.

The plaintiff, referred to as V.C.A.B., also alleges negligence including that the defendants had knowledge of the abusers’ criminal history, that they failed to investigate and punish the abuse and that such failures resulted in an environment where abuse was tolerated and encouraged.

The plaintiff alleges that he suffered long-term psychological harm as a result, including PTSD and substance abuse.
