Health Canada has issued a recall for NÜTRL branded stainless steel tumbler cups due to alleged chemical and ingestion hazards posed by these products. Distributed as a promotional gift with NÜTRL seltzers, these tumblers were sold at various liquor stores throughout Canada.
According to Health Canada, testing of these products has identified a dangerous chemical solution, which includes sulfuric and phosphoric acids, trapped between the inner walls of some tumblers. When filled with liquid, these acids can be released, posing a risk of serious injury from ingestion or skin contact.
Consumers have reported symptoms such as headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea after consumption. In addition, skin contact with this solution can cause burns, tissue damage, and other severe health effects. As of May 23, 2024, there have been 43 reports of adverse effects from using these tumblers in Canada.
