Other manufacturers hit with DMDM Hydantoin lawsuits

Lawsuits against manufacturing conglomerate Unilever have been filed after concerns that some of their TRESemme hair products may be contributing to hair loss.

After the allegations of certain TRESemme hair products leading to hair loss arose, individuals went looking into other hair product brands. In particular, they were looking for the chemical DMDM Hydantoin, which is the alleged link between the hair products and hair loss. Products from brands such as OGX and Paul Mitchell were both found to contain DMDM Hydantoin and also had seen individuals complaining about hair loss and irritation.

The formaldehyde DMDM Hydantoin has been getting heavy press recently due to the numerous class lawsuits that have been filed in the US. To date, TRESemme, Paul Mitchell, OGX, Suave, and Mane N’ Tail have all been listed defendants in US class-action lawsuits. All of which center around the same allegation: that the ingredient DMDM Hydantoin is linked to hair loss. However, none of the products have been deemed to cause hair loss in a court of law as of yet.
