Class Action Certified Against Match Group LLC for Age-based Discrimination

The British Columbia Supreme Court has certified a class action against Tinder and owners Match Group Inc. and Match Group LLC, alleging age-based discrimination. Tinder is a dating app for iPhone and Android smartphones that connects users through an online dating service.

The lawsuit alleges that Tinder engages in discriminatory pricing based on a user’s age. The lawsuit alleges that users under 30 years old are offered Tinder Gold at a rate of $19.99 per month, while users aged 30 and over are charged $39.99 for the same subscription. The same pricing disparity is alleged to exist for Tinder Plus. The lawsuit alleges that this age-based pricing structure violates Canadian consumer protection laws.

“The Court’s certification of this class action is a significant step toward ensuring access to justice for Canadian consumers who used the Tinder app,” said Saro Turner, a partner at Slater Vecchio LLP. “We remain dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals, and we will work tirelessly to prosecute this claim through to its conclusion.”

In reasons for judgement issued on July 10, 2025, the court certified that the plaintiff’s claims are suitable to proceed as a class action. None of the plaintiff’s allegations have been proven in Court.
