Court Issues Carriage Order in BC Inmate Sexual Assaults Class Action

The Supreme Court of British Columbia has granted carriage of a proposed class action lawsuit against the Province of British Columbia and Roderic David MacDougall for alleged sexual assaults on inmates in BC Corrections facilities during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The order, granted by the court on December 12th, 2024, appointed Slater Vecchio LLP as counsel for the proposed class, allowing the firm to seek to represent the putative class members as the case moves forward toward certification.

As the case progresses, updates regarding any further legal developments will be communicated to the public and affected individuals.

If you claim to have been sexually abused by Roderic David MacDougall while incarcerated in a British Columbia corrections centre, please fill out the form on our website and a representative from Slater Vecchio LLP will contact you.

“We are pleased with the Court’s order granting Slater Vecchio carriage of the proposed class action,” said Saro Turner, partner at Slater Vecchio LLP. “We remain committed to seeking justice for all individuals who allege to have been sexually abused by Roderic MacDougall.”
