Former students who attended Happyvale Elementary School in Kamloops between 1970 and 1989 are invited to contact proposed class counsel confidentially.
Slater Vecchio LLP has filed a proposed class action in the Supreme Court of British Columbia concerning alleged historical sexual abuse involving students at Happyvale Elementary School in Kamloops and alleged failures by the school district responsible for student safety.
The proposed class includes former students who attended Happyvale Elementary School between 1970 and 1989 and who allege they were sexually abused by school employees. The lawsuit alleges that School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson), into which the former School District No. 24 (Kamloops) amalgamated, is responsible in law for the conduct of its employees, and that it breached duties of care and fiduciary duties owed to its students.
None of the allegations in the claim has been proven in court. The Court has not yet certified the action as a class proceeding, and certification must be granted before the case can proceed on behalf of a class.
