Slater Vecchio LLP Files Class Action Against Interior Health Authority Following Massive Data Breach

Slater Vecchio LLP has filed a proposed class action lawsuit against the Interior Health Authority in response to a significant data breach that allegedly exposed the personal and sensitive information of more than 28,000 current and former Interior Health Authority employees.

The lawsuit claims that the Interior Health Authority failed to implement and maintain reasonable and effective data security measures, leading to the compromise of personal information – including names, dates of birth, Social Insurance Numbers, and contact information – of individuals employed by the Interior Health Authority between 2003 and 2009.

The compromised data has reportedly since appeared on the dark web, and there are reports of identity theft and financial fraud linked to the breach.

“This lawsuit is about ensuring that the privacy rights of the Interior Health Authority’s employees – both past and present – are protected and respected,” said Sam Jaworski, partner at Slater Vecchio LLP. “Tens of thousands of individuals entrusted Interior Health with deeply personal information and deserve justice for the harm allegedly caused by the Authority’s handling of this breach.”
